14 November, 2011 Succesful Dutch release Silent Snow

After three previews before the final start this coming Thursday, we can look back on an amazingly successful kick-off of the Dutch release of Silent Snow. After the standing ovation of the 800 person audience at the premiere in Tuschinski Theatre Amsterdam, we had another series of enthusiastic reactions at the screenings in Tilburg and Den Bosch this week. About 40 people were gathered in the Verkade Factory in Den Bosch this Sunday for the special Documentary Salons that Annelotte Verhaagen organizes there every month. After the screening, everybody stayed for a lively discussion about the film and its objectives. The audience praised its form: the constant return in the story to the polar expedition beautifully showed how we are increasingly depending on each other in a world that becomes smaller every day. They were also impressed by Pipaluk and said she was the perfect main character for this film. Her modest behavior made sure that there was enough attention for the other heroes from all over the world that she meets on her journey in Silent Snow.

Afterwards, there was a lot of interest in the postcards and organic T-shirt we brought. Later in the bar, one couple came up to us and complained that the discussion had been too focused on the objectives of the film, while usually the Documentary Salon would be all about the creation of a documentary, and whether it was successful in its creation. They wanted to put an emphasis on that: more than anything, it was a beautiful documentary. The great cinematography, amazing colors, good editing and a clear story had resulted in an impressive piece of work. We toasted to that.

Additional great news: both Filmfoyer (Tilburg) and de Verkade Factory (Den Bosch) will show Silent Snow on more dates after the preview.
